Co-owned and operated by Head Chef Adrian Buchanan, priority is placed on excellence in food and service quality.

Celebrated chef Adrian Buchanan is no newcomer to the food scene, and boasts more than 17 years of fine dining experience. Some of Adrian’s accolades include; second place in the Chef of the year competition in 2001, he was named on the Top Billing top Ten Restaurants list and he has been a guest chef on Top Billing twice. Adrian also has extensive banqueting knowledge and is passionate about wine. Along with his trusty sous chef, they offer some tasty and unusual combinations which really work. The food is unpretentious & hearty and the menu changes each season.

Adrian, Ryan & Chris joined forces to create an exciting menu of classic, modern food using locally sourced produce. Their aim is to bring a fresh modern interpretation to the old fashioned concept of hospitality at a fair price.

The Freedom Hill Story…

During Mr. Mandela’s incarceration across the valley from us, owners Francois & Adila Klomp re-named our little hill Freedom Hill. It is here; that Mr. Mandela took his first steps to Freedom 21 years ago. Mr. Mandela must have sat everyday and looked out over his porch and seen the hill, knowing he is only a few steps away from freedom. We at Freedom Hill restaurant and winery believe in that philosophy. To be true to one self and stand up for what you believe in. So to celebrate his release we have started this festival of arts and culture. It is due to our appreciation and great respect for Mr. Nelson Mandela that we will continue to honour this hisoric day, which is called Freedom Day, and share it with our fellow South Africans . The farm is located on the R301, the same road on which the Pearl Valley Golf Course is situated, less than an hour from Cape Town.

Adrian Buchanan

Adrian Buchanan brings international experience with a flair for the local produce he receives from the beautiful surroundings. Sourcing most of his produce from local farmers and businesses he stays true to the essence of each dish. He approaches his guests with honesty and true friendship. With his team of Ryan Z and Mdod, in the kitchen he changes the menu seasonally and takes pride in every dish.

 

 

 

Ryan Bredenkamp

Ryan Bredenkamp helped launch Freedom Hill with Adrian because he felt people needed a place where they could experience high quality food and wine in a relaxed atmosphere. With a love of interesting wines he helps guests to try something new with the exquisite dishes sent out by the kitchen. His front house squad, consisting of Abel, Patrick and Gift, help make every visit memorable.

 

 

 

 

Chris Colston

Having recently immigrated from the UK Chris Colston is the newest member of the team. With a love of good food and fine wine, he found the opportunity to join Freedom Hill to good to turn down. The combination of Adrian’s food and Ryan’s wine selection, as well as the relaxed atmosphere, convinced him this was a venue that could bring pleasure to the guests.

My love for travelling and experiencing new things has lead me to brainchild this blog. It is my personal objective to bring together all the things that I love most about the Cape. I want to tell the stories of everything that is going on “out and about”, through our personal experiences.
